Proper Nutrition for Your Pets

Most people will agree that nutrition is a very important part of their life, so why should it be any different for your pets? The truth is that if you ask a veterinarian for their opinion, they will tell you that all pets need to have good nutrition in order to be healthy. Pets, especially dogs and cats, can have many of the same health risks that humans can have if they are not eating a... Continue Reading

I've been going to the Sherman Oaks Pride 'n' Joy for 14 years. We started going there when it was located next to Barone's, in the strip next to Taco Bell (which has since been bulldozed). They moved up the street a few years ago and we've supported them since. Sure, other fancier places have moved into the neighborhood, but I'm a loyalist. They have always done well by me and I will reward EXEMPLARY service with my loyalty.

There is a low turnover on groomers at the Sherman Oaks shop, which says to me that they're doing something right. We've had a house full of dogs over the past decade and a half and all of them have been to Pride 'n' Joy at one point or another. From our Great Dane to our Shepard / Chow to our terriers, they've always come out looking great and feeling clean and happy. Even our "difficult" chihuahua / doxie mix gets his nails cut there without a fuss. Jose is gentle with him, and he leaves without even noticing that he just had a pedicure.

Not only are their grooming services TOP RATE, but the people are also full of heart. When I recently adopted a new dog from the Lancaster shelter, Jose, the manager, not only refused to groom her (because she was too thin), but he gave us some free puppy food because the poor thing was starving. Since he couldn't bathe her, he wiped her down gently with some hand wipes and clipped her nails, GRATIS. Once she is at her optimal weight, we're bringing her in for her first official groom.

The shop in Sherman Oaks also sells top-quality dog foods, and is knowledgeable about the foods that they sell. Another plus in my book. And also another reason why I'd buy my dog food here and not at a store like Petco.

I'd like to address the comment by Melissa L., your dog is probably shaking - not because of this particular groomer - but because it just doesn't like going to a groomer in general. It's unfair to blame a dog's fearfulness on a particular shop. One of my dogs can't be left ANYWHERE because she gets traumatized. I bathe and clip her at home myself and bring her to Pride 'n' Joy to do her nails. Where she can be held in my arms. I can't leave her at a vet's office because she barks incessantly and bounces off the walls. It has nothing to do with the vet or the groomer - it's just her insecurity. Before you post something like this I think you need to give us an honest assessment of how your dog does in other boarding situations: the vet's office, kennels, doggie day care, etc.

So if you live in the Sherman Oaks area, I urge you to SHOP LOCAL, and support your local area businesses. Pride 'n' Joy gets two-paws up from this household! I wouldn't go anywhere else.
