Summer Pet Care

During the summer months, your pet will require special attention and care. This is especially true if you live in an area that gets really hot. Pets can overheat quickly, and you have to be aware of this so that they can stay healthy during the summer. Make sure that you follow these steps to ensure your pet’s health. You would be shocked to know how many pets actually die during the summer because their owners are not well educated on the importance of proper summer care. After all, your pets safety should be your number one concern when it comes to them.

Avoiding the Heat

During the summer, the heat can reach very high temperatures. When the weather is hot, you should really keep your pet out of the heat as much as you can. You should keep them inside where they have access to the air conditioner or the fan. You should never, under any circumstances, leave them inside of a car for any amount of time. While it is hot outside, it is much, much hotter inside the car. If your pet has been running around in the heat for a while, give them some ice cold water when they come inside. This will help them to rehydrate.

Another reason that you should keep them out of the heat is because the pavement will sometimes be overly hot. Their paws can be sensitive, and having them run around on the hot ground can make their paws sore and irritated. This is something that is one hundred percent avoidable. Just make sure that you are aware of where they are, and the temperature outside. Summer Pet Care

Prevent Heartworms

While preventing heartworms is something that should be done year round, your vet will be the first to tell you that it is even more important during the summer months. Guarding their heart is important because it helps to ensure that they live a long and active life with you. During the summer, mosquitoes can really be a bad problem. If they are not on any sort of heart guard prevention, they can suffer from illnesses that are passed on by the mosquitoes. This is something that a lot of people do not pay attention to, but they really should.

Look Out for Ticks

During the summer, pets often times spend a lot of time outside with the family. This may include camping trips and other outings that require spending time in the woods. This can really be an easy way for them to get ticks. You should always be on the look out for ticks and get them off if you can. Ticks can cause your pet to get really sick, and can even lead to death if you are not careful. Just make sure that you are using some sort of flea and tick prevention when they are out during the summer. This is a great way to avoid any problems.
